Making a concrete bathtub is a complex process that requires technical skills and specialised equipment. The process begins by creating a design including size, shape, and features, such as a plinth design for the base. You'll also need to decide on the type of finish you want inside and outside the bathtub. A mould is then created for the bathtub using materials such as foam or wood. The mould should be solid and sturdy enough to support the weight of the concrete, and it should be sealed to prevent the concrete from leaking out. Reinforcing the mould with steel or fibre mesh ensures the finished bathtub's strength. The concrete is mixed by hand, providing the mixture is smooth and free of lumps; the concrete is then poured into the mould, taking care to fill in all the corners and edges. A trowel or screed is used to level the surface of the concrete and remove any air pockets. The concrete is allowed to cure before removing the mould. The curing process is crucial to the strength and durability of the bathtub. The Finishing process includes sanding and polishing the bathtub's surface to create a smooth, finished surface. You can apply a sealer to protect the concrete from staining and moisture.

Depending on the size and complexity of the design, The Poured Project can either work with detailed plans or arrange a site visit to discuss your project. Samples are available on request, and we can send you images throughout the process to keep you updated. Timings will vary from project to project, but the minimum lead time is 14 days for curing, followed by treatment (if required) and installation. Every stage of the process is done by hand in their specialist workshops, designed to provide the optimum conditions for curing and finishing concrete. The wooden moulds are handmade, drawing on years of carving and turning expertise. When your design is ready, we can arrange delivery by courier or personally handle the installation.
